and better than ever!
What is MAKE Music Day? Make Music Day is a free, annual celebration of music that takes place on June 21st, the summer solstice. It's an international event that encourages people in over 1,000 cities in 150 countries to make music together.
How did it start in Anaheim? Anaheim Elementary School District's Mark Anderson approached Anaheim Packing District's marketing director in 2019 with a grand idea for Anaheim to take part in the worldwide celebration! Together, they created and launched MAKE Music Day Anaheim! The inaugural event was a hit with street performers filling Center Street Promenade parklets with symphonic sounds, interactive bucket drumming, Ukulele and guitar classes as well as a surprise ska concert by Half Past Two at Farmers Park, live entertainment inside the Anaheim Packing House and harmonica lessons at the MAKE Building. Even FRAN, Downtown Anaheim's public electric vehicle micro-transportation had FRAN-aoke where guests could sing as they rode between the Packing District and Center Street Promenade. The nearby music shop even hosted open mic at their establishments.

A Monkey Wrench in the Works: In 2020, the momentum of Anaheim's MAKE Music Day came to a screeching halt as news the changed the world as we know it was announced in early spring. As restrictions surrounding Covid lifted, the Anaheim celebration of music gradually started again. The celebrations in 2021, 2022 and 2023 were scaled back with only Anaheim Packing District as a participating venue.
From Setback to Come-Back: With many venues "back in business" and with MAKE Music Day falling on a Friday this year, 2024 is going to see the best lineup yet for Anaheim's free day of music!
